ACU Announced as a Top Manitoba Employer

In choosing recipients, Canada’s Top Employers evaluate companies’ physical workplaces, atmosphere, health and other benefits, time off, employee communications, professional development and community involvement. Here’s why the judges selected ACU.

A feature article on the award and ACU appears in today’s online edition of the Winnipeg Free Press. In the article, two long-time ACU employees describe that they chose to work for ACU because it aligned with their values, and further relate how the organization helped them grow and advance in their roles.

“We have created and are continually enhancing an environment at ACU where all employees can find the encouragement and supports that allow them to drive their own careers, that allow them to thrive,” says CEO Kevin Sitka, adding that providing a positive environment for employees is also important from a business perspective. “By creating value for our employees, we create value for our members and the community. It’s all connected.”

On January 1, 2025, the number of those members and communities grew considerably when ACU merged with Westoba Credit Union and Caisse Financial Group. From a credit union almost exclusively in Winnipeg, ACU expanded its presence in the North and from west to east across southern Manitoba. From an urban financial institution, the merger adds agriculture and rural communities to the branch network, as well as French language services for members.

“The merger proposal was an excellent fit for all three partners from a business perspective,” Sitka says. “But it would not have proceeded if it hadn’t also been a good fit in terms of culture and values, and our dedication to members, communities and employees.” On one of those synergies, he points out, Westoba also received a Manitoba’s Top Employers award this year, and Caisse is a past-recipient.
