Where kids are not defined by their illness.

About us

SeriousFun Children's Network, founded by actor and philanthropist Paul Newman, is a global community of 30 independently managed and financed camps and programs serving children with serious illnesses and their families – always free of charge. The purposefully designed programs foster independence, resilience and personal growth, helping children to see beyond the limits of their medical conditions and experience all that life has to offer. Since 1988, the Network has served more than 864,000 children and family members worldwide.

  • You may’ve heard about, or perhaps know, some of the wonderful volunteers, staff, and supporters that make SeriousFun camps and programs possible… but have you met some of our fluffy friends? Big or small, animals play a special role at several SeriousFun camps. Animal-assisted programs give children with serious illnesses the chance to go from care receiver to caregiver, and a whole lot more! As we gear up for SeriousFun Giving Day, get to know some of our animal pals... 🐄 Meet Gus Gus, a miniature Scottish Highland cow at Victory Junction, the SeriousFun camp in North Carolina. Cows like Gus Gus can thrive in both cold and hot environments. Not surprisingly, Gus Gus is a relaxed fellow who comforts campers who brush his legendary hair. 🐕 Raise your hand if you have a canine best friend! At Camp Boggy Creek, the SeriousFun camp in Florida, dogs like Lemon provide companionship to campers, helping kids develop confidence, emotional intelligence, and respect for others. All in a dog’s work! 🦙 Llamas like White Top are popular around Victory Junction, the SeriousFun camp in North Carolina. Did you know that llamas communicate by humming? Their friendly energy lets campers know that they’re in a judgement-free zone. Your generous support keeps SeriousFun camps and programs like these thriving for children with serious illnesses and their families. Donate now through Tuesday to be matched dollar-for-dollar up to $125,000 at https://bit.ly/3wF8WnN.

  • Hey! Clea Newman here. I’m dropping in tell you a little bit about my love of camp (of course) and animals (of all kinds!)… and how they’re coming together this Tuesday, May 21 on SeriousFun Giving Day. I hope you’ll join me in supporting SeriousFun Children's Network to ensure that children with serious illnesses and their families have access to transformative camp and recreational experiences, including animal-assisted programs. Your donation will be matched dollar-for-dollar up to $125,000 and make a world of difference for our campers at https://bit.ly/3WFWkHP.

  • With your support, siblings like Kaden, Henry, and Lainey get to experience the transformative benefits of animal-assisted programs at SeriousFun camps. Henry rode a horse for the first time at Victory Junction, the SeriousFun camp in North Carolina. Their mother Cindy credits camp with helping her children grow closer together. She's observed a newfound confidence and willingness to try new things in all three of her children: Kaden, who has undergone multiple spinal surgeries; Henry, who is on the autism spectrum; and typically-developing Lainey. Horseback riding transcends the siblings' different medical conditions, and is an activity where they can conquer fears and share joys together. Animal-assisted programs are one of many ways that children with serious illnesses flex independence and find connection at SeriousFun camps. Your generous support makes these programs possible for siblings like Kaden, Henry, and Lainey. Donate now through SeriousFun Giving Day on Tuesday, May 21 to be matched dollar-for-dollar up to $125,000 at https://bit.ly/3VcbmUF.

  • Are you ready for the dog days of summer… and bunny and horse days, too?! SeriousFun Giving Day is coming Tuesday, May 21, and that means you’re in store for some serious paws-itivity. Over the next few weeks, we’ll be sharing all about the impact of animal-assisted programs on campers, made possible by people like you. You’ll even get to meet some animals who bring joy to children with serious illnesses and their families. Add us to your LinkedIn "favorites" if you haven't yet, so you don't miss a moment! (Unsure how? Go to our SeriousFun Children's Network page and click on the bell icon, then click "All," and you'll be set). Can’t wait to meet our animal pals? Get a sneak peak, plus learn more about how you can get involved with and support SeriousFun Giving Day, at https://bit.ly/3wrEFsF.

  • “Nurses make the difference.” That’s this year's theme for #NationalNursesWeek, and it’s true! We’re so grateful for the nurses who bring their expertise and care to SeriousFun camps and programs. You not only make camp safe for children with hundreds of medical conditions, but you make camp joyful, too. You provide child-centered medical care in unobtrusive and playful ways so that SeriousFun campers can be kids first, patients second. What a gift. And a special shout out to our friends at Medical Solutions whose shared expertise and generous funding helps ensure that our camp nurses are the best of the best! Thanks for all you do! Nurses everywhere, thank you. We appreciate you!
