MAU was birthed out of creativity and the belief that it is possible to build something out of nothing. Bill Hatcher Sr. found himself unemployed through no fault of his own in 1973 at the age of 48. All he had ever been was an HR manager, but he knew how to hire good people. Partly in desperation, and wanting to feed three children and pay for the roof over their head, he decided to start MAU with an idea of serving the manufacturing sectors.

1973: MAU FOUNDED

MAU (Management, Analysis and Utilization, Inc.) is founded by William G. Hatcher, Sr. after he is laid off. One of the first jobs: security for Van Halen at the Civic Center.

Relic: Corndog

A true entrepenuer at heart, Mr. Hatcher sold ice cream sandwiches as a child, owned his own bike shop and narrowly missed making a fortune as an early player in the corndog game.

1975: OFFICE SERVICES DIVISION FORMED

Mr. Hatcher (as he is known around the office) expands to offer office staffing services, forming Ms. Power to recruit permanent hires for businesses and Ms. Temps to provide temporary staffing.

Relic: Pink Paper

Driven by his frugality and love of bargains, Mr. Hatcher purchases a massive quantity of pink paper at auction. For several years in the 70s and 80s, all internal communication would be pink.

1977: FIRST MAJOR CLIENT

MAU lands Kimberly-Clark, its first major client. Over the years, MAU and Kimberly-Clark have worked together to use creative models to create a true partnership. Kimberly-Clark remains one of MAU’s key clients today.

Relic: Frozen Beaver

Humor and good-hearted pranks in the workplace are parts of MAU’s DNA. To point – an honest-to-goodness frozen beaver was once a gift during our Christmas White Elephant exchange.

1978: MAU LANDS E-Z-GO

Shortly after partnering with Kimberly-Clark, MAU starts its long-standing relationship with E-Z-GO, their first project account. At the same time, MAU broadens its services to include international staffing for Aramco, the world’s largest oil supplier at the time, in Saudi Arabia.

Relic: The Office Indian

MAU is a minority owned business (Mr. Hatcher is a certified member of the Echota Cherokee Tribe of Alabama). Over the years his office Indian has done everything from answering phones to handling security.

1981: MR./MS. TEMPS

This year, Mr. Hatcher combines Ms. Power, Ms. Temps and Ms./Mr. Temps into a single entity, Mr./Ms. Temps, to provide office placement, office services and industrial services under one roof.

Relic: The To-Do List

Consider It Done is one of the founding principals of MAU and underscores the importance of organization and accuracy in the workplace. This inspired the distribution and use of notepads to each employee to ensure all tasks are completed. Even in an era of modern technology, this tradition has stood the test of time and reminds us of the importance of not only getting things done – but getting them done well.

1986: SAVANNAH RIVER SITE

MAU broke into the government sector in a big way this year when the Savannah River Site chose to use us to provide staffing at the facility. It would be the first in a long series of government contracts for MAU. From this 650 person contract, the strategy of combining outsourcing along with MAU's other services evolved.

Relic: Christmas Carols

We've always believed it's by the Grace of God that we're where we are today. For as long as anyone can remember, our holiday tradition has been singing Christmas carols in the mornings during the holidays, complete with donuts and good cheer.

1987: OUR MOVE TO GREENE ST.

This year MAU finds its home on Greene Street in downtown Augusta, Georgia. Recently renovated, our corporate HQ remains the hub of our activities 25 years later.

Relic: The Gray Paint

Another purchase by the notoriously frugal Mr. Hatcher was a ton of government issue “Battleship Gray” paint. Every surface of the office, employees recall, would be “grayed out” for years.

1994: BOSCH

This year, MAU formed one of its biggest partnerships to date with Bosch, providing staffing and management for their facility in South Carolina. To this day, MAU maintains its nearly 20 year relationship with the manufacturer.

1998: FAMILY BUSINESS AWARD

We've always taken pride in being a family owned and operated business. Since the beginning, we've always had a Hatcher at the helm and a few on the crew. In 1998, we were recognized by Georgia Trend, who bestowed upon MAU their Family Business of the Year Award.

Relic: Payroll Blackout

Prior to developing our state-of-the-art payroll system, we had to do things the old fashioned way. And just because we lost power one fateful payday didn’t mean we couldn’t get it done. That day, we cut and signed over 2,000 checks running from a gas generator 3 stories below in the parking lot.

2002: MILLIKEN

Milliken has been in business since 1865. But, it wasn't until 2002 that they partnered with MAU mainly to provide staffing and HR for their Greenville, SC Hillcrest facility. Our partnership has expanded over the years and today we serve Milliken through many of our Branch locations.

Relic: Secretary Challenge

Back in the day, Mr. / Ms. Temps hosted the "Secretary Challenge" at the Augusta Mall, a competition among office professionals to determine the city’s best typers, filers and go-getters. MAU’s pool of talent consistently dominated the now-defunct games.

2006: BMW

MAU joined forces with BMW to manage the staffing of their Spartanburg plant facilities. BMW Manufacturing Spartanburg is the worldwide producer of the BMW X3, X4, X5, X6, and X7 Sports Activity Vehicles and Coupes.

Relic: Braves Games

If there's one thing that has been extraordinarily consistent throughout our history, it's MAU’s love of the Atlanta Braves. Over the years, we've had countless corporate outings, and even bought a bus, to go see the Braves. America's team is also MAU's.

2013: MAU CELEBRATES 40TH ANNIVERSARY!

MAU Workforce Solutions hosts three events to celebrate 40 years in business. The celebrations were a way to show appreciation to clients, employees, associates, as well as friends and family for their roles in the success MAU has achieved.

2015: SKILL SCHOOL GRAND OPENING

On June 10, 2015, MAU Workforce Solutions hosted clients and local Upstate business leaders for the Grand Opening of the MAU Skill School, a training facility providing an opportunity to become comfortable and confident in the process and operation of Powered Industrial Vehicles.

Relic: It’s 5 o’clock Somewhere!

Many years ago, MAU would host a weekly Friday Happy Hour. It was a time that allowed for the MAU family to get together and celebrate the accomplishments of the past week while toasting to the weekend ahead.

2016: FIRST TIME WINNER BEST OF STAFFING® CLIENT AWARD

MAU is the proud recipient of the Inavero 2016 Best of Staffing® Client Award. Presented in partnership with CareerBuilder, Inavero’s Best of Staffing® Client winners have proven to be industry leaders in service quality based completely on the ratings given to them by their clients.

2017: MAU ACQUIRES FUTURESTAFF

MAU Workforce Solutions, in their quest to make lives better by delivering workforce solutions globally, acquired metro Atlanta-based staffing company, FutureStaff. The acquisition of FutureStaff has added three additional Georgia offices, one in Conyers, GA one in Newnan, GA, and the other in Fayetteville, GA to the MAU team.

2018: MAU ACQUIRES 3Ci

MAU Workforce Solutions has acquired Atlanta-based, technology staffing and consulting provider 3Ci -- extending its global reach with 3Ci’s expertise in the technology sector. The uniting of the companies affirms MAU both as a premier workforce supplier in the Southeast, and it strengthens the strategic foundation for MAU’s continued expansion across the U.S. and in markets worldwide.

2022: MAU ACQUIRES DOOZER SOFTWARE

MAU, Inc. acquired Doozer Software’s project services and staffing division— strengthening MAU’s capabilities by adding the Birmingham-based company’s expertise in software development. Doozer joined MAU’s technology solutions division, 3Ci. MAU CEO Randall W. Hatcher said: “The acquisition of Doozer opens up new avenues of growth for both companies to leverage our combined 65 years in business. Doozer and 3Ci’s growing Software Development Solutions Practices will bolster the combined services for software development, database/business intelligence consulting, and IT staffing. This creates amazing opportunities for us to broaden our current offerings to better serve our clients nationwide.”
