Quick Reference: Communicating in Korea

The Korean language has almost nothing in common with English, so before you travel to Korea, it's important to understand the main differences, including:

  • A different rhythmic structure dominates, with very little inflection in any words
  • Non-verbal communication is key: bow to individuals as greeting and farewell
  • Don't be offended by silence
  • Don't gesture with utensils

This quick reference includes these difference and more, plus key phrases such as Hello, Please, Thank you, plus 'getting around' phrases including Where is the bathroom, How much is this, and Where can I get a taxi?
